20k for a BA in Psychology at USC. Smart investment?

I’m an incoming transfer for the fall semester as a Psychology major and l worked my butt off during CC to get into USC; so I’m very ecstatic to start my life in Troy.
However, I’d have to take out about 10k (per year) in student loans to attend; so roughly 20k in total for my undergrad. This only concerns me because I also got accepted into UC Irvine for Psych and I would not have to take out any loans to attend. I will definitely go to grad school so I can get into I/O Psychology, so the loans will only continue to add up and that is worrisome for me.

I’m a first-generation college student and a lot of this is new for my family so I’m trying to get all the info/advise I can get. All of the professors, students(except one), and my counselor that I spoke to at my CC encouraged me to attend USC. Which came by a surprise to me since I have often read that undergrad doesn’t make or break it for psychology majors.

I’ll definitely be applying for scholarships next spring to lower the costs for my senior year. So my question to this forum is:
Will an investment of 20k for a BA in psych at USC be a wise choice?

I decided to post this in the USC sub-forum because I’m looking for insight for those currently attending or whom have children attending USC for psych. Alumni are welcomed to answer too!

Note: I know that it is what you do (extracurricular, research/internships, networking, etc.) during your undergrad that sets you up for grad school and employment.

Interesting. Of course, USC is a higher ranking school overall, and everyone will tell you to go there. But, they are not offering to pay your bills. Advice is cheap. But, $20,000 in UG loans is actually lower than the $28,000 that the govt will loan you for 4 years.
A little bit of googling will give you more information about what school is better in that major. If you are going straight to grad school, your UG may not matter that much. It doesn’t seem that either school is in the top 30 or so of undergrad psychology. Your graduate work will be the most important.

Seems it’s up to you and what you want your experience to be like. How important is the huge college spirit thing to you? SC is a blast, only you can decide. Both are good options. Congrats to you for getting through JC and getting accepted as a transfer.
