2250 SAT; 650 Critical Reading

Hello,

How would top colleges look upon a student with an 800 in math and writing and a 650 on critical reading? Colleges I'm referring to include Columbia, Cornell, Georgetown, Tufts, Amherst, etc. 2250 is a high SAT score, certainly in the range that they would accept from, but there is a discrepancy in that 800 is high for those schools and 650 is fairly low. This is a student with top grades (including English), all APs/Honors, and very strong extracurriculars, essays, interviews, and recommendations, who just happens to struggle with the CR section of the SAT. Would this be a big problem?

Thanks.

How many times have you taken the SAT?

I think it will depend on if these colleges look at only the CR and M scores or if they put emphasis on the writing score as well…

I suspect that it will be viewed as a 1450 which if that # is below the median for the school (which it might be for Cornell and Columbia) it’s going to be difficult. But for Tufts it’s little above their median. They may not focus so much on the disparity because that does happen, of course.

What do you want to study

I agree with Hitch. It’s a great CR + M score…
