2260 --> 2350+

Hi guys,

I took the SAT in October this year, and I got
730 Writing (71 MC / 10 essay)
770 Math
760 Critical Reading

I already did all the Blue Book Tests, so what are the next best things I can do to prepare to break 2350 on my next test? I am taking it on December 1st.

Thanks in advance!

You really don’t need to take SAT again at all, no matter where you’re applying. There’s no sense in gilding the lily.

If you prep more on the writing MC section and score well on the essay, your score will increase. Also keep practicing on the other 2 sections.

Collegeboard has an online course that has 18 or so instructional somethings…and more importantly, ten more official tests. It costs $70, although I think there’s a discount located in the Blue Book.
It’s probably too late, but you could also purchase Collegeboard’s Red Book, which is (I think) the second edition of their SAT guide. Aside from the analogies, not much as changed.
You can also use PSATs to prep, since they’re pretty much the same thing as the SAT.
Review all the questions you’ve ever missed (if possible) and make sure you really understand the questions and why you missed them.

Good luck!

If you’re scoring 770 in math, you’re probably capable of an 800 next time you take the test, and colleges realize that and view it the same. The critical reading you really can’t improve much without months (if not years) of prep once you know the strategies. Read The New York Times or the New Yorker and British Lit; both are very beneficial in terms of both vocabulary and comprehension. British Lit is more complicated than the SAT but if you can handle it you’ll do amazingly on the Critical Reading. The New York Times and the New Yorker are great as practically half the excerpts are heavily edited versions of articles from either the New Yorker or The New York Times.

Look around for the “How to write a 12 essay in just 10 days” thread for the essay.
