I agree with all above posts and advised my kids to quit after anything over 2300. But when we had the kid with the first 2400 at our high school this year -the made a really big deal out of it -pictures, name engraved on plaque, local TV news interview- if these things are important to you (they are not to us) then perhaps you take it again. I definitely wouldn’t bother with the ACT. Also highest SAT gets STAR student from their high school, which I think it just the designation and a banquet where you bring your favorite teacher. On the flip side when this kid didn’t get in any Ivys or MIT, I think he was a little more disappointed because he and others thought the 2400 was more important than I guess admission did.

oh man, if I got 2360 that’d be the end of SAT in my life.

While going for the perfect score probably won’t make a difference in terms of college admissions, it will make you eligible for lucrative awards such as Presidential Scholars or Coca-Cola which use near-perfect/perfect SAT scores as a first cut for narrowing down their huge applicant pools.

If I was an admissions officer, I would ask myself why this apparently smart kid is spending time retaking this test. Does he not have anything better to do with his time than re-take the SAT for a perfect score. Remember these schools are looking for great individuals who will contribute to something wonderful on campus. Retaking the SAT for a perfect score does not provide any evidence that you will contribute on campus in a meaningful way.

Take it and run!

@funny1 - our school requires everyone to take the ACT and it shows up on our transcript, which we have no control over. So I might as well do well on that; most students at our school, if not all, are expected to take the ACT so I really don’t have a choice on that matter.

I think you’re fine. I have 36/2400 and didn’t get in everywhere…focus on ECs, deciding whether to go early decision or early action, making your college list, grades, etc. 2360 won’t keep you from getting in anywhere, no one is going to say “That’s too low!”

A 2400 is not going to be easy. If I were you, I’d take the 2360 and remain happy.

Congratulations on your excellent score! And no, I don’t think you should take the test again. Stick with your first-sitting. In my opinion, it’s much more impressive to have taken the test one time and to have earned that score than it would be for you to take the test more than once and earn a 2400.

No need to retake, why are you even asking this question? for gods sake you scored in the 99+ percentile lol, don’t you have anything better to do on a Saturday?
