24 and still in college

Hello! I transferred to Illinois State University in Fall of 2018, I could say my first year was great, but I hardly met anyone close to my age unless they were a grad student. I had been transferring around for a while just to find a place where I felt at home, and I felt ISU was the place. However, despite my age, it felt strange being older than most of my classmates. At times, there were people who were in their 30’s or late 20’s still finishing up their degree, but they commuted to school from the area. I am here to ask for advice from those who have either been in school as long as me, have just started school, or who knows someone who has been or is in the same boat as me. How do I make friends my own age while here, and not be judged or stared at for being a little bit older? Also, how can I find others my own age during my final year at my college?

Obviously I don’t know for certain, but I highly doubt people are staring at you or judging you for being a little bit older. Besides, at 24, most people don’t look any different than 22 yr old seniors. I think that part is in your head…

As far as finding others your age, I wouldn’t stress that too much, either. I was 5 years older than most of my classmates when I attended university, and while it was a little odd at first, I quickly made friends and realized that there’s still plenty in common. Just remember that you’re all there for similar goals (a degree, life experiences, etc) and then you won’t feel so out of place.

Good luck!
