I recently got a 24 on the Feb 11 ACT test.
English: 32
Math: 21
Reading: 22
Science: 22
My goal is around a 30, hopefully nothing lower than a 29. What are some good resources to raise my score?
Is it possible for me to raise it from a 24 to a 30?
Yes, it is definitely possible. Do not take the test every time it is offered, as I saw you say you would on one of your other threads. Practice, practice, practice using ACT prep books, or, if possible, even go for tutoring. Then, once you are able to get a score you are happy with on practice tests, go ahead and take the actual test. Do not expect to make the jump to 30 right away. Set smaller goals, like 26 and then 28, for yourself while you are taking PRACTICE tests, and over time you will be able to achieve your final goal, which is when you should take the real test.
Heavily use Khan Academy and test books. Also, there are very good ways and also very bad ways to study for standardized tests. After going through the whole process I am very convinced that simply doing standardized tests to practice serves you little good. You need to be actively trying to figure out the right answers as you practice. If there is a problem that you are unsure about don’t wait until the end of the test to see if you got it wrong, go to the back of the book to see the answer and the explanation and make sure you understand what the correct answer was and why that was the correct answer before you move on so that you will not make that mistake again. Also use google as a resource to learn about the types of questions that the standardized tests will be asking to better understand what they are looking for.
I went from a 28 to 35 between freshman and junior year. I just practiced a lot and made sure I was learning from my mistakes
Take practice tests without a timer. Take your time and see what your untimed score is. This will help ID gaps in knowledge. Read about test taking tips so you can get faster.
Reading has strategies for success. Learn them.
You are in good shape since math is easiest to bring up and English is hardest. What math class are you currently taking? Have you had all of the material? Geometry, Algebra II, basic trig that is usually taught in Algebra II?
My kids liked an online tutoring program through Sanderson Test Prep. Practice tests were assigned as part of their program and those were really helpful, but if you’re looking for actual instruction, try them out.
