25% are gay, lesbian, or transgender?

Who ever stipulated that? Just because I'm gay doesn't mean I'm a sexually active and depraved soul! I believe I was either born gay or was influenced in my earliest years to "become" gay. I've studied a lot about homosexuality in my psychology readings. In any case, I do not believe I am sinning by mere virtue of being homosexual. I do believe however that in choosing to live a lifestyle that promotes abstinence from gay sex, that I will be morally fulfilled to my God and live a happy life :)

... :D still off by a long-shot to me buddy :D Until you actually KNOW me, you will always be off by a long-shot... that's just the way the cookie crumbles my friend ;)

agree with you on the first part, actually my fordham essay was about this very topic (can one be a christian and be a homosexual at the same time)
omg you're going to be abstinant? then why do you care how many gays are at nyu?

Social life??? Hehe, it's cool to get to know similar-minded people. One of my college essays was on that same topic, actually! Are you gay Stephen? Just wondering..... ;)

yes i am.....hmm....i almost admire you for your commitment, though i could never do that [to] myself
omg i just looked at your xanga....you're pro-life? im pro-death hahaha

Well thanks. Haha... well now at least you see that I truly am I good Catholic boy. But you... a good Greek Orthodox boy.... and pro-death? Hehe... explain this new phenomenon to me please! I have a little more procrastination time penciled into my budy schedule! :D

I think that statistic is bull ****.

There's no way 25% of people are gay, unless this sruvey was taken in the gayest neighborhood of San Francisco.

I wish I'm going to NYU, but I didn't even apply.

NYU's gays are more in the open, but no way are they 25%. The vast majority of homosexuals at NYU are male and they comprise less than 20% of the male population (considering NYU is 60% female that is pretty low)

The American population in general is what... 3% gay?

Why did they all go to NYU?

Studies have indicated that approximately 10% of the population is gay. Your question, Jonathan, is silly. NYU has a large gay population, as does NYC, especially in the village area. If you're uncomfortable with homosexuals, you're going to have a problem at NYU. There's a large number of gay individuals at NYU because it is a very gay-friendly university, and the city is also welcoming. Certain programs at NYU have larger numbers than others but, as in any demographic, you'll find gay students in every NYU college.

...considering there's pretty much no correlation between homosexuality and STDs (while homosexual men are the decreasing majority of HIV+ and increasing majority of syphillis+, still more heterosexual couples are commonly found to have STDS than homosexuals).

I saw on 60 Minutes a few months back that a lot of gays have STD's because they have sex more.

While I don't think there are any formal statistics on how many LGBT students there are in NYU, I'm guessing that the number is above the nationwide average. I think that a lot of LGBT students apply here because they know the campus is open and friendly - here, you can be who you were meant to be.

Of course, the corollary to this is that NYU isn't so great for students who are very homophobic. I imagine that they'll be uncomfortable a lot of the time, and that isn't very conducive to a positive learning experience. I really think these students would be better off at another school.

the gay population in america is about 1% maybe 2% any who thinks its higher needs to get his facts straight

Yes, "gays" (didn't realize it was a noun now) generally have a lot of sex and a lot of STDs, but it's just as much if not less than "straights." The numbers are the same (and for certain STDs, even greater) for heterosexuals. 60 Minutes just decided to put the spotlight on "gays"--a media spin that chose to ignore or to not focus on other aspects of the topic at hand. Male-female sex is just such a commonly accepted occurrence that (more ignorant) people don't think twice about how often STD and teen/accidental pregnancies occur.

I think I read somewhere that UCSB--a school infamous for its partying and wild behavior ("University of Casual Sex and Booze" anyone?)--has the highest amount of STDs on campus, and the percentage of homosexuals there is pretty low, I believe.

Hofstra University has its own strain of herpes.

Will NYU in Abu Dhabi be any similar? Here's for those who haven't heard of it: NYU > Abu Dhabi

I'm down for whatevah

Well, I never saw a number on it, but I have heard exaggerated stories of most of the guys being gay and a high female:male ratio, which leaves little competition for us straight guys

@chosen

lmao.

it's something like 60/40 female/male here. yeah, there's "little competition", but there's an entire facebook group talking about "is he cute or is he NYU cute?" because sometimes the guys here are a little. . .lacking. . .
