28 grand a year good deal?

I'm an international undergrad who just received a chancellor's scholarship at UMass Amherst's Commonwealth Honors College. The total cost of both tuition and board is 28 grands a year. Is this a good deal for an international undergrad?

Can you afford $28k/year for 4 years? If the COA increases a few thousand each year, which it probably will, can you afford that?

28k for four years is no problem for me actually, and I hope it’s not gonna raise by a few thousand a year because tuition has been constant for the past few years.

Are you saying that AFTER your scholarship, your costs would be $28,000 a year?

Yep.

It is a good deal if you and your family can pay it and are happy to do so. I considered anything at and under our limit a good deal, and though we did get options for our kids that were lower than what they ended up picking, we let them pick within the affordable choices. $28K for us would have been a very good deal.

Fam willing to pay anything 34k and under, so I do have a few grands if I decide to stay for summer. I’m personally very happy with the offer especially getting to attend CHC.

Just like us! $35K was our ceiling, so anything under $30K is a very good deal. When we could find something that was doable at $35K or more, my kids had to be the ones getting that excess. Having a little leeway is nice. You can continue to see if you get other offers, but if you like UMass, it has what you wants, it’s affordable, then you are good early in the season. Congratulations.

I think that’s great then. And you have a cushion in case costs do go up. Congrats. Good luck in school.

Thank you guys, I sure hope that I won’t have to pay more any time soon  and also waiting on a few more schools but the feel in UMass is strong

Sounds fine as long as family is happy and can pay.

What is your major?

What are you planning to major in?

Sociology with a minor in something… Yet to decide my minor as options are quite tight.
