I am looking to transfer from Emory University as a Freshman to one of these colleges.

Northwestern
Columbia
Brown
Amherst
William and Mary

What are my chances if: (as in do I still have a reasonable chance)

I want to be an Econ major.
I received three As and one B this semester: overall GPA 3.75
Extracurricular in college so far - 2-3 (dedicated to them but no leadership position)
High school GPA: 3.1 (but took hardest classes school had to offer. School is not uber-renowned but still pretty decent.)
SAT: 2240 (M:750 CR: 750 W:740)
SAT2 (World History 800, Math II: 800)
Extracurricular in HS: 5-7 (2 leadership positions)
Work/volunteer experience: no work experience, but did 2-3 months of volunteer work at various institutions during the past three summers.

I really want to transfer.

Another question: will i receive some sort (perhaps not official) of repercussion from my current institution if I do try to transfer but fail?

My school offers economics classes: should I take an economics class this semester ?

absolutely, if you are trying to convince those universities that you would make it as a econ major at there schools, you should have a little experience to the major. Strong SAT and pretty strong GPA for a reputable school. Still the schools you are applying to are among the top in the business. I would say that W&M is a match while the rest are low-reaches, though none are out of the question. If you can nail your essays you should see some success. Good luck, and nice job turning around your high school gpa in college.

I’m Emory freshman too!
W/M and Northwestern = match
Brown Columbia Amherst = reach.
I’m applying to Brown Columbia Amherst too, but why amherst if you are going to do econ major?
