Hi everyone. I am currently a junior and I am debating whether to take the SAT II U.S. History in June. I took SAT II Chemistry and Math II last year in June, and got a 790 and 800, respectively. Most of the colleges I’ve seen only require 2 or have no requirement at all, but many people suggest taking 3. Would taking the history SAT help me at this point?
3’s the average requirement, I’d take it if you know your going to do well on it.
If it doesn’t put a burden on you, then I would suggest taking three. I took three (US History, Math II, Biology E). I feel like the Math/Science/Humanities format shows good breadth of knowledge.
** False**
If you feel as if you’ll do well, take it. If not, don’t.
Look at the schools you are thinking about applying to an see how many they ask for. If you are not sure what schools you like, then go to the highest tier you are interested in and see what they want.
I am pretty sure that Georgetown is the only school that still requires three with the exception of some specialized programs which might require two sciences plus Math II. That said, if you can take it and do well (over 750 given your other scores) and it isn’t taking time away from something else that you want to do, then take it.
^Even the Ivys only require two at most…
If it requires you to do another sitting, then NO – it’s a waste of time and money. Go help you parents that day. Your transcript (I assume) already shows your academic ability and breadth of ability. This is akin to the kid with 2380 SAT going to sit for the ACT, hoping for a 36. Superfluous. Irrelevant to colleges since only GTown colleges require three AFAIK. Congrats on your 790 + 800 to date. You’re done.
I just recently noticed that CMU’s admissions website says they want the SAT Subject Tests to be taken junior or senior year. Anyone know if they make exceptions? My thread on that:
