what are her chances for CDB scholarship if she has gotten 36 in act, an aime qualifier, national level science winner and a good amount of leadership running science club and being teaching assistant at a couple of places
What is CDB?
A seventh grade teaching assistant? Where.
Caroline D. Bradley Scholarship
Moving to Prep School Parents for better visibility
TA - i meant in a couple of local places here
Could you please explain what a 7th grade teaching assistant does? TA usually means a long term position assisting an instructor. Is this what your kiddo does?
I don’t think it has to be that elaborate. When I was in 8th grade my middle school went asynchronous due to covid, but the elementary school was still in person. I went and helped out the elementary school science teacher everyday for a few weeks. I guess that could count as being a “teacher’s assistant”. I doubt OP is trying to say that her daughter had a long-term serious job teaching. I could be wrong though .
For the OP - I don’t know anything about the CDB scholarship but a 36 ACT is extremely impressive (especially for a 7th grader)! Congratulations!
Edit: added the quote box
Kiddo’s public middle school had one elective period, and one of the options was TA. When kiddo did it, he helped with keeping the room organized and tidy, and was a gopher.
You’ll definitely get past the academic screen for CDB. Based on the kids I know who have gone through the process, they are selecting for more than just ability to perform well academically. But I don’t know enough about the ins and outs of the selection process to know how they select for the non-academic traits.
She has cleared the academic hurdle. That is a very impressive ACT score. CDB likes people, not scores. Of course, you also need the scores. Hopefully her application expresses her personality and interests fully.
As someone who got CDB, I’d say a pretty good chance. As long as they seem enterprising, independent from their parents (as in - not doing things because their parents wanted them to do it), and genuinely kind in the essays and the interview, I would not be surprised if they got CDB.
@CateCAParent thank you for the explanation.
To the thread OP. Your child’ accomplishments sound very good, but they need to sound authentic for a kid in 7th grade. I think this student has a decent chance at this award as long as she doesn’t exaggerate her actual accomplishments. That’s not needed.
Oh I see…She says she is able to hear herself in her essays that she wrote and submitted… when she rereads them …fingers crossed…thanks for all your inputs…sincerely
