4 years High School Engineering class for daughter with Mechanical Engineering major as goal

“she took Chem in the 8th grade and would not be a student taking back to back Chem Honors and AP Chem. I would not want to chance a H.S. GPA killer because to the 3 year gap in chemistry. In college the chips fall where they may, but she will already be admitted.”

My suggestion is to not play the GPA game. If you think she is a strong enough student to survive a rigorous college engineering program, don’t sweat AP Chem. An added bonus it may help her refine ideas on college major… ie chem eng or not.

My daughter took the same sequence as Parentof2014grad, AP chem was easy for kid #2, not as much work as she had feared, but AP Physics B was painful, the guy didn’t know how to teach. She did get A but I don’t think she had a deep understand (or even like) for Physics, which was really a shame because Physics is really useful in life.

Update: She has dropped the H.S. Engineering/tech from the curriculum, and is starting Physics Honors in sophomore year with a goal toward Physics C as a senior.

That sounds like a good plan. Best of luck!
