Is this true?
Greaaat.
Bye, Columbia.

nope. I had two years of extremely shoddy Latin.

EDIT: I saw your post somewhere in a chance thread… You should definitely apply to Columbia ED.

Awesome! Thanks so much for the encouragement, also.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but does anyone know if Columbia counts years of middle school foreign language? I took Spanish I and II in middle school, and then took III, IV, and V AP in high school. As my school does not offer AP spanish lit, will it count as five years or three years of study?

what the heck? I took Spanish I in middle school, 2, 3, 4AP in high school…and I got a 4 on the AP Spanish test this year. But only 3 years in high school. Would this affect me at all?

I think we’re getting worked up over nothing. The 4 years of foreign language is merely a RECOMMENDATION. As long as you show some proficiency in a language other than English, your chances will NOT be hampered.

I showed zero proficiency… so there’s hope.

Middle school records do not count towards anything. Along with that, everything Epaminondas said is absolutely true.

^Yeah, I find languages (especially languages with complex grammar) are a hit-or-miss with people. Some get it and learn it quickly, others struggle a lot. So don’t worry, your not alone!

Attempting to hijack this thread, because I don’t feel like making another one:

Columbia wants you to send only two SAT IIs, right?

I have:

800 Bio M
760 Lit
760 Physics

I’ll send the Bio, but what looks better the Lit or physics? I will be majoring in some kind of science field, and got a B in one semester of AP physics (5 on the exam-not that there is space to report that…) so I thought it might show I at least know some physics. Then again, it might be weird to have two sciences, and I heard that like 8% of people get 800s on physics. I have an 800 CR score, so I don’t know if lit really helps me either.

Thoughts?

Aren’t you allowed to send more than 2?

Yeah, just send them all. A 760 is nothing to be ashamed of (although none of my SAT IIs were that low;) ).
