4 years or 4 classes?

hi um this might be a dumb question but when colleges list the courses they expect you to have taken in high school do they mean classes or years? For example by graduation, I will have taken 4 Social Studies classes (us history, gov, world history and psychology) but technically I’ve only taken 3 years of social studies because I took both world history and psychology during my junior year and no social studies my senior year.

Four full-year classes. Doubling up one year and skipping another is fine.

They mean 4 classes. But the answer does vary by school and by subject. For example, the expectation is usually that English is taken each year. But for social studies, you’re fine.
