Would love to hear any real life experiences with the campus. If such a high percentage are from in state (and I get it’s a BIG state), is the campus dead on weekends?
I don’t think it is. Most of the students I knew there from the Twin Cities didn’t go home very often.
Definitely not. The Twin Cities is at a minimum 45 minutes away and the students I know who go there only come home for breaks or really special events. Also I don’t think freshmen are allowed to have cars on campus so that changes things as well.
Thank you everyone. I found a current student who confirmed in his experience the campus is not a wasteland on weekends. This is good to hear.
@TytoAlba - St. Olaf is a great school!! My friend’s daughter goes there, as do quite a few kids from our HS, which is fairly close by, and they only come home on special occasions. Students are very involved with on-campus activities, which keeps them busy over most weekends. Have you visited?
Yes, in the summer. Our DD is flying in for student days next month.
Hope your DD enjoys her visit! Overnight visits at any campus, without parents, is a real advantage in assessing if the school feels right for prospective student. Such nice kids there! Praying she has good weather! April can be 75 and sunny, or 45 and rainy. But I’m originally from CA, so I am happy for any rain to keep things green! Will she be visiting any other schools while in MN? Don’t know what part of the country you are from, but since we are pretty far north, spring is usually just starting in early-mid April; so I hope your D is not too disappointed if things haven’t greened up and bloomed yet here. The views from that hilltop campus should be great, though!
Hoping the weather is not too bad but she’s ok with rain. We have already seen it during the summer time at the peak of bloom. We visited Carleton during the summer, same trip, but not this trip.
St. Olaf and Carleton are very different schools. Both great, but just in different ways! If you don’t mind sharing, what other schools is she considering?
Lawrence and Beloit. Also applied to grinnell, Carleton and a few others.
Great! My S16 applied to Lawrence and Beloit, and rec’d good merit aid from both. Carleton is awesome (one of my fav campuses) but is very difficult to get into. Have they released RD yet? All have great kids, from the experience of my son’s visits. He will be attending Grinnell, but Lawrence was a close second. Appleton is another great town and the campus is right there, close to all the activities. Beloit is quirkier, but had good programs for such a small school. By boss’ granddaughter really enjoyed the wide variety of students she met there, when she was student. Good luck to your D and hope she has many great options from which to choose! It will be fun to read what she thinks of St Olaf, and where she decides to attend!!

Oops! Sorry for the double post! I moved pages and thought I lost my first one! Best wishes for a great day, to all those expecting admissions news today!
