5 APs too much?

So I'm going to be a junior next year and I know I'm taking 4 for sure which are AP Stats, AP Bio, AP Lang, and AP US History. The thing I'm on the fence about is whether or not to take AP Micro/Macro Economics along with it. I know that the difficulty of these classes vary depending on who your teacher is and other factors, but based on any of your experiences with any of these classes would you suggest taking AP Econ too or should I just take a non-AP class instead?

I’m annoyed I can only take 4 classes next year. I’m focusing on taking a large amount of AP tests - here’s what I’m planning (current 10 th):

9:
0 tests
10:
4 tests (3 self studies)
11:
8 tests (3 self studies)
12:
9 tests (3 self studies)

Moral of the story: MOAR is better.
Ask upperclassman what they thought of the class & decide based on that.

9:
2 tests
10:
2 tests
11 now:
4 tests + 1 CC (APUSH is killing me)
12 plans:
3 tests + 2 CC

5 APs will make your life kind of suck, but is definitely manageable. Remember not to get too far behind in any class, though.

Thanks for the replies guys!
@seniorsfo: What is APUSH like?

Apush is a pain…lots of details to memorize, plus annoying essays. Manageable with work.

I’m taking 5 AP’s and I’m a sophomore, if you have the time commitment and energy I say do it if not AVERT AVERT!

Points: 1 = Easy, 1.5 - Easy/Medium, 2 = Medium, 2.5 = Medium/Hard, 3 = Hard

12 = Maximum/breaking point

AP Stats - Easy/Medium (1.5)
AP Bio - Medium/Hard (2.5)
AP US History - Medium/Hard (2.5)
AP English Language - Medium (2)
AP Macro/Microecnomics - Easy (1)

Total = 9.5

Yes, take AP Econ…it’s a joke. Im self studying it right now as a sophomore. Each takes less than 11 days each to effectively study.

AP macro/micro should be easily doable. Don’t worry; go ahead and take it.

The Bio and APUSH workloads depend on your school. Ask the upperclassmen about their experiences with similar schedules.

I think it is too much. You won’t have time for ECs.

All the people who I’ve talked to said it really SUCKS. It was really hard for them but they got through it… and they don’t regret it. Plus they’re now like top 5 in the class.

You do 5+ AP’s because YOU want to get into a top college. Make sure that you really want to do this or else you won’t make it. In high school, there’s never too much as long as you have the dedication.

i’m taking 6 next yr… nbd its ultimately up to you you know yourself better than a couple of people online

It’s doable, but ver difficult, again depending on your school, the teacher, and your own work ethic. I actually doing 5 this year- 4 at school and 1 self-study. It’s a lot of work and I’m busy, but I’m ok. I’m taking AP Calc AB, English Lit, Euro, Psych, & Spanish.

actually i take 5 AP n all self-study and i didn’t study until last month… so screwed man

AP classes are incredibly time-consuming, but they (mostly) eliminate the need to study on your own.

Self-studying is definitely something you should consider if you have the time because compared to the class and all that work, it’s just one test. And you can get college credit (although there is usually a limit to how much credit you can receive). If you can devote 4-7 days to a subject and really learn it and take many released exams to gauge yourself, you should be able to get 5s easily. About self-studying - you should be relatively interested in the subject, or you won’t have the perseverance to get through the entire prep book.

APUSH: The class is a joke, but there’s a bucketload of work. Thankfully, it’s paid off. We have 2 weeks of review, so I’m not even going to bother with a prep book. The diagnostic we took (the 1996 test), I got a 5 on. According to my teacher, a 5 is around 70-75% (remember, no guessing penalty now). Casual 5.

AP Bio (self-studied): I studied hard, along with taking Honors Bio. Since it was the first AP I took and I didn’t really know what to expect, I pretty much studied CliffsAP (which is all you need) from February on. The test was pretty easy since I was so prepared, so I got a 5.

Five isn’t bad as long as you’re not a senior lol
