500 Word Essay Options B

Do you think that choosing option B, "Describe an issue of national/local concern, its importance to you, and a solution you see to it" or something like that, puts you at a disadvantage in admissions because this kind of essay isnt personal and the admissions committee isnt really getting to know your personality or creativity... Thanks for responding

it depends how you write it. You could make it personal yourself. I however did the "choose an event something that affected you" or w/e something like that.

I'm doing that option too.

If you feel that you don't show yourself through that option, don't do it.

Choose the one that will allow colleges to see the good in you.

yea i know what you two are saying, my essay is about sort of an unusual issue and i do obviously mention about why its significant to me, but i wouldnt call the essay personal. The 250 word what do you bring to Umich is personal however, because of its nature. So hopefully they'll get a sense of who I am through that.

"Discuss an issue of local, national, or international concern. Why is this issue important to you? How would you resolve it? What impact would its resolution have on others?"

I wrote this essay, two years ago, on my thoughts on the importance of America pursuing mulilateral means of changing the world. I think it showed my thought process and my passion for politics and current events.

I also chose this topic for my essay last year.

LOL I'm doing mine on Sports, LOL

samTrob, ultimately the essay isnt a tool for knowing the personality and creativity of the student in question. An ex-harvard english professor (my english teacher in my senior year of high school) explained to myself and my class that the quality of writing is what is really important. Dont expect to convey personality only through an essay and get in.

i disagree with that completely. there's a reason they ask the questions they do. your answers are an important part of their evaluation
