since ive been in kindergarden, ive been commuting 3 hours a day to go to school- therefore i think its understandable that i havent had much time for sports or other ecs. how do you think i should work this factor into my application without making it sound like an excuse. thanks so much.

Im considering these schools

reaches: penn, harvard, yale, dartmouth, columbia
targets: pomona, notre dame, emory, hamilton, bc, georgetown
safeties: holy cross, santa clara

are you saying that you have NO extracurriculars? What about work experience? A lot of kids at my school have similarly epic commutes, but they tend to do almost all their homework while traveling so they can use the rest of their time to do other things. You still have weekends and summers, ya'know. The idea that everyone needs to be president of 10 clubs is silly, but not doing ANYTHING can be a huge detriment.

My daughter also commutes 3 hours a day. She does have her extracurrculars, 4 years softball, school satire magazine, NHS VP, BUT she too wants the colleges to know that she chose this commute in order to go to a better, academically challenging, nationally recognized school, rather than "coasting" at our local HS. She too is wondering how to work this into her app.
Good luck to you.

Sorry for the confusion- but I never said I didnt have any ecs- here is my list. what i'm trying to ask is how i should include the fact that i have commuted so many hours a year to school since i was four years old into my essay. i know that to get into duke its necessary to have amazing ecs as well as test scores and grades, so i would like to have adcoms realize why mine may be slightly subpar- here is my list. I would appreciate any feedback.
