I'm 60th in line on the waiting list for Stats 133, is there a slightest chance of me getting in??

typically about 7-8 will clear the wait list, not 60.

However, the waitlist position in the main lecture actually doesn’t matter. You clear into the constrained section, which are the labs. What is your waitlist in the lab? Probably still bad, but if you were #1 on a waitlist for a lab or discussion, you could be #100 for the lecture and still get in if one slot opens in your lab/discussion. The lab would typically clear the first 2-3 people for stats 133, using the general rule of thumb that about 10% of the classes maximum size is what gets in from the waitlist.

Overall, I would say your chances of winning the lottery are about the same as the chances of clearing this waitlist.

ooh man… i really wanted to take that class. The class doesn’t have any discussion or lab sections so I’m definitely not getting in.

It certainly does have lab sections - [UCB Online Schedule of Classes: Search Results](http://osoc.berkeley.edu/OSOC/osoc?y=0&p_term=FL&p_deptname=Statistics&p_classif=--+Choose+a+Course+Classification+--&p_presuf=--+Choose+a+Course+Prefix%2FSuffix+--&p_course=133&x=0)

This happens at Cal, but you just need a bit of flexibility. Some semesters a class you really want is too full or you have to make it a phase II due to other priorities. You don’t lose the chance, you just keep that in mind and each semester, if the chance comes up and it works with the other stuff you will take, jump in then.

As long as you know the courses you MUST take, have a good set of alternatives for satisfying requirements like breadths, and remember all those interesting or personal MUST classes, you can adapt as you get to your telebears slot. If classes A and B are filled, you register for C or D. If you miss a semester, you might ‘promote’ the class to phase I for the next semester to better your chances. Also, summer session is a great way to get into classes that can’t make your phase I list for some reason, are in high demand but you really want to take.

hey thanks for your reply and you advice!! I will take this into consideration.

i was totally thinking of Stats 134 (that’s the class that doesn’t have a Lab or Discussion) but yeah Stats 133 does have a Lab.
I emailed the Stats adviser, she said they’re going to open another section for Spring semester. yay!!
