7 Days until Judgement Day....

What are my chances? :)

I'm a Canadian, at a private boarding school in Grade 12. We traditionally only send 1-2 max to the Ivy League, most students only apply to Canadian universities.

Academics:
96.5% average
Ranked 1/150
800 math
800 reading
730 writing (only 7 on essay, I don't know how)
780 Chemistry
790 Math I
800 Math II
Taking fairly rigorous courseload, but my school doesn't allow more than 2 APs at a time.

ECs:
Went on exchange to South Africa for 3 months, taught kids English once a week while I was there
Volunteered at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto doing research work for 3 weeks last summer
Captain of Varsity Rowing, stroke seat of the Sr. Men's 4 (decent boat, but not medal-contention level or anything)
Member of the Varsity Squash team
Voted Peer Counselor by fellow students
Co-Head of the admissions program at my school
Tutor for elementary-school kids since grade 9

Essays:
Common app - on leaps of faith, integrated skydiving and getting through my mother's death (she passed away when I was 7)
Supplement - on teaching kids in South Africa and what it taught me

References are decent, two from teachers and a supplement from my rowing coach.

Whaddaya think, do I have a shot? Btw, if you got this far, thanks for reading :)

in the yale pool this year- you're average. awesome scores, okay ECs. but if ur essays are good, you have a shot! good luck!

I don't know what the person above me is talking about. I really think you're an awesome candidate, actually. Things that help you are your test scores & rank, your mother's death (I'm sorry, it sounds callous, but they do tend to take you seriously if you've been through a time of great difficulty), and your ECs. You've got everything there - volunteering, captain of a sport, head of a club...

Things that hurt you are your school's restriction on APs (which is STUPID), your writing score on the SAT and potentially your recs. (Yale's standard for recs is usually the teacher writing that you were the best or second-best student he/she had EVER TAUGHT.)

So all in all I think you've got a great chance - the pros tend to outweigh the cons. Good luck, and keep your head up!
