It was one hell of a ride…go blue!
Congrats on graduating! Your original posts from which this is drawn are in my opinion some of the best ones on a CC forum.
@wolferber I see that you were an EECS major!! Would you mind telling me about some of the most memorable things you did in undergraduate? I’m a junior in HS and the University of Michigan is one of my top choices!
I’m especially interested in how much CS you do as an EE major. I’m very interested in CSE as well, but I don’t know if I want to be programming all day—I like it as more of a hobby. I’m really interested in controls systems, signal processing, and flight control/aerodynamics.
Also, I am from the Buckeye state. And I get trash all the time for saying I want to go to Umich.
@maya54 Thank you I cringe when I read those now because I feel like I’ve grown so much as a person
The most memorable thing I did was probably host the Big Sean benefit concert my senior year. Or maybe it was actually the company that I started with my best friend that I’m now working on in LA. You can check that out here: https://edibleproject.io/
I also loved teaching. I taught EECS 281 (data structures and algorithms) for a year and a half as a TA. I really really enjoyed working students and getting them to love a topic that can be so difficult (i.e. EECS).
Usually, the students who are really passionate about the topic do really well. Everyone else tends to have a really hard time.
CE is a great option if you like both EE and CS. It’s a mix of both. Best of luck! Don’t plan too much going in…just be open minded and explore all the opportunities you get.
@wolferber Don’t cringe. Honestly I think this is one of the best pieces of advice any student can have:
“Write s**t down somewhere. For me it wasnt a planner, I just had my two most urgent things at any point written on 1. a whiteboard in my room and 2. the personal banner on my phone. If youre always working on one of the two most urgent things in your life you will survive.”
It’s actually great advice for anybody.
