7th grade ACT vs junior year

Wondering if anyone out there took the ACT in 7th grade for Duke Tip or something similar. How much did your score go up by junior year.?

33 in 8th…35 in 11th

DD went up by 12 points.

I have a friend who got 35 in 8th but a 34 in 11th LOL

S19
7th grade: 16
8th grade: 25
9th grade: 28
11th grade: 36

No prep except for 11th grade.

So it’s definitely hard to predict. My daughter got a 20in 7th, 21in math and science. Sounds like she has a shot to end up a 32 or higher maybe. Hopefully

@Jenwyman30 have her prep. S19 took a practice test without prep and got a 31 last fall. Prepped and right before official Feb test was scoring 34/35’s composites. He went into test with zero stress due to all of his prep and I think that contributed to his 36.

7th grade: 24
11th grade: 36

If you took it in 7th grade and in 11th grade to you count that you took it twice? Or just once since it was for Duke TIP?

@SCMomofTwo that is a good question! In my mind, I don’t count the earlier ones since S19 didn’t prep and hadn’t covered much of the material yet in school. He took it through a program like Duke TIP but for area out West. Certain scores qualified for special GT programs. We were encouraged to let him take it cold and told it wouldn’t “count” as it was for GT program purposes only. Now I am wondering how that works…

College Board automatically deletes any scores before 9th grade - I don’t know if ACT does the same. They’re not at all reflective of current performance when applying to college.

Even if ACT does include them on a report, admissions officers are smart enough to do the math on the dates.
