7th Semester grades - Merit $$

Does anyone think that sending in great 7th semester grades for admitted student can help merit $$ chances??

It probably wouldn’t hurt, but I agree with other posters that merit money at Michigan is scarce. Make sure that your child sends anything they ask for that would indicate interest–like the essay for applying to the honors college.

Thanks for your input…but he is already accepted and engineering does not have an honors program. He did apply for a separate engineering scholarship but will not hear anything until April probably. My theory on merit is that the OOS ivy league applicants that may have gotten some merit $ early from Michigan will have to withdraw first in order for my s to be considered. I have noticed that many of the OOS kids with near perfect SAT/ACT scores are using Michigan as their “safety” school…so we are hoping they all get accepted and attend their top tier dream schools and let their merit $$ trickle down to us. What do you think of my theory??

near perfect SAT/ACT’s will probably not land one a merit scholarship (by itself). However, I think your theory will end up being true (to some extent) as many Ivy applicants also apply to the University of Michigan and have a preference towards schools in the Ivy League over the University of Michigan. Looks like we’ll just have to wait and see how things unfold :).

You are right, the kid that got $20K/year OOS two weeks after being admitted had really high scores and the rest of the complete package to go with…but he told me that his top list did include Stanford, MIT, Cornell, Notre Dame etc. etc. so I guess it isn’t over til it’s over.
