A Better Chance Program - Middle Grades

@1OboeMom and @fire18 even though it says you’ll find out through the portal they still send an email to successful applicants beforehand. At least that’s how it happened last year! I got a completely random email at around 6.30 in the evening saying congratulations. It was a few weeks later that the official portal decision came. Don’t know if it was the correct way or not but that’s how I found out! Good luck to you and your kids, it’s a wild, wonderful ride!

Does anyone know the acceptance rate?

Not yet, it looks like the notification date is now June 15th.

From my region about 50% of those who apply are accepted in the cohort. Of those 30-50% get placed in a member school.

Where are you located? I’m in the Boston area?

I’m in southeast

@1OboeMom are you in the New England area?

I’m in the Boston area so my child is in the Northeastern cohort. There were about 133 kids placed, not sure out of how many. We do have families that we went through the process with who did not get placed OR for some reason didn’t make it to the end though.

@fire18 we’re in the Midwest Region just outside of Chicago. We met a few families at testing who have older children that have been placed in years prior and had a second child applying. I have no idea of the stats for our region regarding acceptance into the program and/or eventual placement. We are waiting rather impatiently and researching schools in the interim.

@1OboeMom I am trying to get my twins into a private middle school. Having a common application would make the process less stressful. We will apply regardless if they are accepted into the cohort.

Notification will be on the portal 8:00 am tomorrow.

My son did the benchmark testing in Boston on 5/5. Few weeks later got the email to register for studying ssat website. This morning got an email stating tomorrow will let us know if he got in? I thought since he was studying on that website. He was already accepted? Any input? I am so scared?

My children also did benchmark testing on 5/5 and both received the link to register for ssat test prep. Maybe they sent it to everyone that applied to determine which kids would do the work and are committed to the program? Test Innovators did state they would send data to ABC. I’m hoping we all receive good news tomorrow.

That can confusing. The SSAT study tool was offered to all. Tomorrow you will find out if you will move onto the next phase.

Yes, everyone is sent the test information. You are not accepted into the next phase until you receive an official congratulations notice. Last year they did it differently where they emailed us then two weeks later it appeared on the portal. If accepted, you’ll likely be offered more test prep through Test Innovators for a reduced fee. It was well worth it in our case.

Good luck everyone!

8:04 and my kids’ applications still say under consideration

You’ll possibly get an email saying that the decision is available.

It’s odd because the email yesterday stated login at 8:00. I guess I will be refreshing the portal page all day at work.

We went through this two years ago. They didn’t tell us that the decision would be available at 8am like this year, just that it would be up that day. We didn’t get the email that it was ready until 6pm. I had given up hope. My third son is waiting for his decision today as well. I’m wondering if there’s a time zone issue, however, I believe the main office is in NYC so that might not make sense.

@fire18 yes, they definitely switched it up this year! Last year, we didn’t get portal notification until June 30th…but I had already received an email two weeks prior. When I got the email saying that a decision was available, I got nervous and thought they’d changed their minds, lol!
