Hey CC.

I (regrettably) applied to only two schools for music: USC and UCLA. I expected getting into LA no problem, but I was waitlisted, and I know of 3 saxophonists who have committed.

Much to my dismay, I got into USC, which I definitely can't afford.

I got into SFSU, UCSB, UCI, UCSD, and CSULB academically.

I'd like to go to UCSD or UCSB, but I am unaware of the quality of the music programs.

My questions:

How likely is it that I'll be accepted at UCLA?

Should I go for UCSD or UCSB, music-wise?

Call UCLA and ask if the studios are full or if they may still consider the wait list. They are friendly folks. They do not want to mislead you. If they don’t know they will tell you but if the studios are already full they will let you know that, too.

UCLA is a small friendly program. Call! Show them how much you want to be there!

Take a closer look at CSU Long Beach. You might decide it’s a good fit musically. Can you audition there now (as an accepted student) or in the fall?

@sopranomom, I’ve considered Long Beach. I’m not sure how the audition process is for students like myself.
