The first semester of my junior the year that i planned to do my best and my mom got cancer. I fell through in my pre calculus class and my ap chemistry class. if only i actually studied more. How am i going to go to a good college with these grades? i want Johns hopkins, ucla and many other high selective colleges, but will they look at my application with these 2 Cs. my cumualtive gpa from freshman and sophmore yr is 3.74. i am dropping 2 worthless electives and im doing what i can but my gpa is a 3.33 and i have midterms next, i go to a weird school. should i just kiss my dreams goodbye? im heartbroken.
When you apply, you (or your counselor) should notify the schools about your family situations and how they caused to get a lower than normal grade. There is a difference between getting a C because you blew off the class and didn’t do homework/study, and getting a C because you had to deal with your mom’s cancer. I’m sure that universities will understand your situation; nonetheless, you still have to put effort into your application and keep your grades as high as possible to gain admission. I cannot accurately chance whether or not you’ll make it into your selective colleges, but I can guarantee you that your dreams are not completely crushed due to your Cs. Hopefully this helps!
Yes they will still look at your application. No they don’t just throw applications out the window. I concur with making sure your guidance counselor knows about your circumstances when you apply to college. When I applied to colleges, I had a couple of c’s on my application and still got into a selective school that I thought I had no chance of getting into. Not all hope is lost, plus you have an actual explanation for your performance that is not “my teacher was tough.” Best of luck!
i will hopefully be able to bring one of those Cs to a B
Don’t loose hope! Situations like yours are always explainable. If those grades are from an AP class maybe if you get a certain AP score or higher your teacher can round your grade up (all my AP Teachers do this)! If not just the best next time! Don’t worry! Just try talking with your teachers! Best of luck! AP Chem is very hard btw congratulations on the fact that you are taking it!
