A challenge to the 2010 Whartonites from Stern

The Stern Class of 2010 has set up a VSE (Virtual Stock Exchange) Game for the Sternies, but they are looking for more challenges outside of Greenwich Village.

So.

Whartonites.

USNews say that Wharton and Stern’s finance programs are the two top ones in the country, of course we all know Wharton just edges out in front. But how will it fare in a stock simulation with the school that’s 15 minutes from the NYSE? Join the Stern 2010 Summer Games to show–or try to show–everyone exactly what the Wharton name is about. Only Wharton 2010 allowed.

Message me to get the password to the game.

To see current standings and get more info about the game, go to.

<a href=“Virtual Stock Exchange - MarketWatch”>Virtual Stock Exchange - MarketWatch

and search up Stern2010 (case sensitive)

Important: If you join the game from a school OTHER THAN Stern, then create your name with: [insert school name] in front of your name.

Have a nice day. Hope to see you on the market.

What's the point in having the class of 2010 take part if they have not yet begun to take classes at Wharton? What about people who have no business experience whatsoever?

Yeah, that doesn't make sense. Targeting current Wharton Finance majors to play against current Stern Finance majors would be better.

do people NEED experience to play stocks? No. It's not a rocket science. Its all for fun anyways. Its not like real money is involved. Besides, i thought wharton people would be passionate about business enough to play a finance GAME.

ok, let me guess, u guys aren't joining stock clubs at wharton until you've learned how to play it.

Well you're making it seem like some sort of competition to compare the schools, when in reality it wouldn't be comparing the schools, as the kids that would be partcipating haven't yet attended classes there. So basically you're just pulling random kids and testing how well they play stocks prior to knowing anything about them.

if you are really into finances, than you'll teach yourself. It's not as much about comparing which school is "better" as to show school pride and represent your school in a friendly contest. Look. Even if Wharton gets last place, we still know Wharton is 1st in Finance.

Again, its about school spirit and repping your school. It doesn't "disgrace" your school if you lose... we KNOW you haven't learned any wharton finances yet. But its just a stock game, and if you are any interested in stocks and finance, you should play.

what a stupid idea. i think this was created by kids who got rejected from wharton that are having to settle with stern. they just want to now flaunt their ego and try to compare schools by a meaningless game.

wharton is #1. thank you very much.

I think its a good idea, sounds like fun

These people have posted this mesage on many forums with B-schools, including UMichigan, MIT, etc. They're just trying to recruit people for a private game.

I hate all the finance wannabes who go to stern and wharton as the next person, especially when they are freshmen and prefrosh, but this is sort of a cool idea. give OP a break.

sounds like fun, but I'm too lazy right now

Well IVYPoison, when you post a message saying "How will it in a stock simulation with the school that's 15 minutes from the NYSE?" with Wharton's finance program being your antecendent, it makes it seem like you're comparing the schools. And I don't know why you keep bringing up being passionate or into finance, when that's not what I said at all. I'm just pointing it out that it seems that you're trying to compare the schools, when in reality you can't because the Class of 2010 is not really in a position to compare the schools. No one said anything about not wanting to take part because they're uninformed. I'm just making a point.

"How will it in a stock simulation with the school that's 15 minutes from the NYSE?"

In case you haven't noticed, that sentence was sarcasm to try to get people pumped up about this competition. Provacation and false-taunting gets people going about a competition, you know.

And sweetnsarah, it seems that you have something against friendly competitions. This friendly competition is about school pride, but you are obviously mistaking that for the competition wanting to compare schools. It's not. Like other kind people have pointed out on this topic, yes, Wharton is the number one school for finance, and yes, many Stern kids got rejected from Wharton. But so what? There was absolutely no point to that comment other than to stroke the person's own ego. Look. There's a fine line between "comparing schools" and "repping your school spirit". This competition is not about comparing schools. It's about the latter. If you are sore about entering a competition that just so happens to involve many business schools, then don't. If you aren't, and if you want to rep Wharton, than PM me for the password. I'm looking forward to playing as many people as possible.

"These people have posted this mesage on many forums with B-schools, including UMichigan, MIT, etc. They're just trying to recruit people for a private game."

Bravo, you figured out the whole point of getting participants for an International business school stock market simulation.

Look. If you don't want to join, no one is forcing you to. If you speak out AGAINST this game, then you are in the minority. Cause from what i've seen so far, this game has gotten very very very positive feedbacks from everyone else, except from the Wharton board.

And some of you complain this is a private game. YES THATS THE POINT. It's a game among 2010 B-SCHOOL STUDENTS. And turn out so far is very positive.

Current schools registered:

Stern: 15
Haskayne (Canadian B-School): 1
Ross: 1

Pending registration (those who have msged me for password)

Wharton: 2
Ross: 1
Marshall: 1

We JUST opened this game for Inter-Bschool competition, which is why there is a disproportionate number of Stern 2010 players. It started as a Stern-only game.

Calm down. I am not sore about joining, nor was I the one that called the Stern kids Wharton rejects. I was just inquiring as to your logic.

I hope you see my logic, now.

Yes, I do.

Excellent, see you in the game sarah :)

like, if I lose, I'll just talk about that thing where a bunch of monkeys picked better stocks than some "experts". just saying that right now

haha bump this up

Here is a facebook group for the players to get to know each other better:
