I've been considering going into Biomedical Engineering alongside the Pre-med course track with the ultimate goal being medical school. Ideally, I want to have a backup major that is usable in case I don't get into medical school. I have a few questions regarding this path:

1) I know that engineering is known for grade deflation and causing a dent in one's GPA. How does this factor into applications? Do med schools typically look at the curriculum and note that the course load is significantly harder than say a liberal arts major?

2) Is there any real difference graduating from a top medical school and a mediocre one in terms of job opportunities and pay? This may seem like a dumb question, but I just want to make sure I'm not making any wrong assumptions.

Any help would be appreciated!

PS: I am willing to take 1-2 years extra too if it means that I can increase my competitiveness if necessary.
