Does CS 3 still fulfill a preHaas requirement? The online pre-orientation says it does, but I can't find it among all the pages of classes that fulfill a requirement.

What's going on with the East Asian Dept? Who exactly can, and can't take Chinese classes? If I want to take Chinese at Berkeley, what do I need to do? (is the placement test necessary?) And are they all taught in simplified Chinese?

That may be referring to Haas's old "computer" requirement which no longer exists for students applying in 2008 and after. It also does not meet any breadth requirements.

I don't know how the Chinese department has changed since the budget cuts and such. BUt I think anyone can take Chinese at Berkeley. You have to take the placement test because they require you to print a copy and bring it to class the first day.

Beginning Chinese (1A, 1AY, 1AX maybe) is done in traditional first and then you learn both simplified and traditional in 1B, 1BY and all the more advanced courses.
