A Dozen of Jersey's Best and Brightest; The Best Chooses Stanford

"Ethan Groveman, a senior at Millburn High School, was named the Mort Pye Scholar, the highest honor in the award program established in 1988 by Donald Newhouse, president of Advance Publications, parent company of The Star-Ledger. The full-tuition scholarship was named for the late Mort Pye, editor of The Star-Ledger for 31 years before retiring in 1994. The other 11 students honored last night will receive partial scholarships.

Richard Pye, Mort Pye's son, called the annual scholarship awards a testament to the state's youth. "It's heart warming to be able to celebrate some of the best and brightest in New Jersey," he said.

Groveman, who was captain of his high school swim team and a four-year varsity track athlete, will attend Stanford University this fall."
