A hard broken Rejectee with no chance of a future

oh yes i do..oh yes i do.....see i wouldnt care if i got rejected from every school i applied as long as i got into one of my top choices....so now for me, there is no difference between penn state or community college...they are all the same

Wow, you are one very exaggerated fellow. If you had only gotten into say, CUNY Lehman, then you would be in a dire situation. You got into one of the Penn States, and the quality of education there is top-notch. If you really want to say here, I believe Hofstra is still taking applications. Apply there -- stay for a year, maintain a high GPA, TAKE THE SAT THIS JUNE, and transfer out.

i did apply at hofstra................i did it in feb so i wont probably hear till may

i'm sorry to hear this bestmiller. i was in a similar situation. i didn't even get the chance to apply to my dream college, since my parents said it was too far away from home.

I feel sorry for you. But, to be honest, you should be glad for at least one university admitted you. Some of the smart kids at my school got rejections from all their choices, and may end up going to community college or elsewhere. You know, this is a tough and competitve year. All you can blame for is why you're born in 1988, not few years before or later! =0

I am pretty much like you, getting rejected or waitlisted by my safety/reaches. But, I got accepted by URochester. And, I can imagine if my future classmates're like you, it would be great. Anyway, wait for your news. Wish you best of luck wherever you end up going!

oh man i wish i could to to rochester....i have to call them on monday see whats going on...if i could have gotten in, then the first day in freshmen orientation, i would have seen you

Join the Navy and try again in a couple of years

i was thinking the air force, but i have glasses on....and i dont think the amry or the navy or marine is for me.........

Which Penn State did you get into? (i.e. University Park, Abington)

Penn State and community college are the same for you, Bestmiler? I find that surprising.

You go anywhere in the US and say you went to Penn State, people will recognize it. No one (except for maybe people in PA itself) will ask you "What campus?" This means that when it comes to transferring (if you decide to do this), you'll have a chance at better schools, provided you get good grades. Besides, you might not want to transfer, except to maybe the main campus. The school spirit at Penn State is tremendous.

Don't fall into the same trap that your parents have. Reputation doesn't matter as much as the education itself does.

A quick story: my D. had heard that an childhood friend of hers, who was graduating near the top of her class, was rejected from her four top choices. Everyone had expected that she would get into at least one. The only schools she got into were two lower ranked (but still top) LAC schools - and she was depressed. I'm sure she felt like a failure. My D called her to say that she had a similar admissions experience and that she had been accepted as well into one of the same LAC schools. As they talked, my D's friend became more and more excited about this other school. She had needed to readjust her thinking to understand that she had indeed been accepted to two fine schools.

That's what you (and probably others who experienced similar rejection) need to do. Re-calibrate your expectations. Give up the schools you had dreamed of attending and now look at the ones you CAN attend. Sometimes switching from fantasy to a more practical and realistic perspective can be upsetting, but it doesn't need to be so. Work with what you have - and show the world your potential.

best so whats the latest with you? Its hard to believe this chapter of our lives, the application process is nearly over and closed. I personally am mixed, its been a year of some major disappointments, but some good things too like getting into some schools, although not my first three choices although am still waiting on UCSD, but feel like I will be happy and succeed no matter where I go. Where have you gotten in and if so is that where you are going? HAVE YOU COLLEGE ADVISOR/COUNSELOR WORK ON YOUR BEHALF, they often times can be more effective and are use to having to campaign for their students to get into schools or get them off a waitlist. Although thousands got into the top schools, I think its widely agreed that this was an incredibly tough year to get into schools period! So much competition and even more, so many students applying. Wish you all only the best ahead.

I'll second this comment, BestMiler.

One advantage of attending a somewhat less selective school is that you have a greater chance to excel academically - this might help your future grad school or professional school (or even employment) objectives.

Air Force is good. Lots of good training and $ for college

I was going to join the national guard before the iraq war started... ***. I need some money for college....;;

Did anyone else find it funny that the OP misspelled 'heart' with 'hard'?

Ooooh, you're so hard and so broken!

...IT IS REALLY GOOD WHEN ROGER DOOLEY ACTUALLY POST IN MY THREAD....i get recognition from a celerbrity lol :)
...Well at this point in life, im really thinking about pennstate, wating for Buffalo and Udel to come.
...Well the US military is good but I am not really intersted in the military, unless i went the military academy at west point
...And to all those who said about prestige: I AM NOT GOING DENY IT, NOT UNTIL RECENTLY I REALIZED, I have become a rank whore because of my parent's influen.....but not for UCB...the reason I dont want to go to the army, because im going to do whatever to get into UCB, not because of rank, because this what i wanted since eight grade...see most people who apply all the way from here, wants to get into ucb or ucla or ucsd because of the rank.
...Im actually going to appeal my decision and tomorrow go talk to my gc, what to write about, BECAUSE I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT TO WRITE ABOUT
...and lol @ acceptedalready
