Hey, I am going to be choosing my A-level subjects soon and I’m really interested in going to Wharton. Planning on taking Math, Business Studies, Economics and Accounting. Is this a good subject combination? Are there any specific subjects Wharton likes to see in its applicants?
Any help would be much appreciated
Wharton wants top students, with top grades and top ECs. They like students who take the most challenging classes, and with strong mathematics skills. Economics and business classes are not required. .
First, thanks for replying. I have a lot of fun studying these subjects and was wondering if they were a good subject combination, if they aren’t required does that mean it will hurt my chances of admission if I only take these subjects?
Your priority should be Maths, Economics, and a humanities subject (English, philosophy, religion, history, a foreign language). Business studies or accounting should be a 4th subject (AS? or attempting a 4th Alevel?)
You have a couple of posts about getting into Wharton. I’d recommend that you give up the idea of a dream school and work to create a solid college list that includes reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable and that you would be happy to attend. The people I see who get hurt by the college admission process are the ones who focus on one or two hyper-competitive schools and then don’t get in. Cast a wide net and recognize that (assuming no major hook) Wharton is a reach for pretty much everyone. Penn has an acceptance rate of around 9%, Wharton is lower, and international students likely even lower.
Can Math, Economics, Geography and Business work?
Thanks for the advice happy1!
Yes, Math, Economics, Geography, and Business Studies would work.
@happy1 is very right: don’t have a dream college. Find all kinds of colleges you’d like to attend. Buy a FIske Guide and start reading. (To get a sense of different colleges, start reading about Tulane, BYU, Smith, McKenna, Davidson, Middlebury, Grinnell.)
