A list of 750 colleges that don't require SATs. . .

for those of you who have just had it with SATs altogether.

This list was put together by FairTest, a nonprofit generally opposed to high-stakes standardized testing:

SAT/ACT Optional 4-Year Universities

Some of these schools are less selective across the board but others are highly ranked. Bard, Bowdoin, and Bates are all there, of course; so are a number of highly ranked "baccalaureate" colleges (schools that are neither national research universities nor liberate arts schools).

I hope this is not a redundant post; I did search for other similar threads but didn't find anything yet.

If you know of other schools that don't require SATs--especially very good schools--I'd be interested to hear about 'em.

Thanks for the link. I should point out for the sake of perspective that nearly all of these colleges have explicit open admission policies. They not only don't require SAT scores, they don't require good high school grades, and they don't require a secondary school program adequate to get a student ready for genuinely college-level work. But, yes, there are a few colleges on my list of outstanding colleges that allow some or many applicants to apply without submitting SAT scores.

Yeah, your word of caution is accurate, I think. But there are a few well-known and more selective schools on the FairTest list. Here are a few, in order of their USNWR rankings:

LAC

5 Middlebury College, Middlebury, VT
7 Bowdoin College, Brunswick, ME
17 Hamilton College, Clinton, NY
24 Bates College, Lewiston, ME
28 Mount Holyoke College
33 College of the Holy Cross
37 Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY
40 Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA
40 Union College, Schenectady, NY
44 Connecticut College, New London, CT
44 Dickinson College
48 Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, PA
52 Denison University
56 Lawrence University
75 Saint John's College
80 Lewis and Clark College, Portland, OR
97 Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, IL
not ranked Gustavus Adolphus College
not ranked Saint Lawrence University

National Universities

44 University of Texas, Austin, TX: as long as minimum GPA/rank is met
62 Texas A&M University

Nearly all of these schools are LACs. But the list includes some good options for hard science-y/business-y people: Bard, for instance, has a five-year finance and economics degree.
