that is definetly not true... I know a grad school would not choose a 3.0 from UCLA over a 4.0 from Merced... a comparison would be Harvard choosing a 3.0 student from LA school over 4.0 student from a smaller city... think about it

Pure- very untrue

You do not have the experience to say something like that. A UC education is a UC education and you are not going to have ridiculously easy teachers at Merced and ridiculously hard teachers at UCLA. To some extent it is true that undergrad at UCLA is harder just because the students are smarter and there is less curve/teacher can expect more... still... a student graduating from UCLA with a 3.0 will not be considered on the same scale as a student at Merced with a 4.0. A 4.0 is hard to come by, no matter where you go, especially at a UC.

Hey guys, I'm new to this site, I'm thinking of going to UCM in Fall 2010 as pre-med. If I get stellar grades and MCAT score, do you guys think I could get into a good CA med school like UCSF or UCLA?

yes! UCM encourages undergraduate research which will also make you more competitive...I am going fall 2009 as a premed as well

Ummm I haven't been on here in while. Welp I'm a current UCM undergrad so, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Look at the Admitted students for the top med schools. You'd get lucky to even find a 3.8 UC Davis here or there. Its just the way it is. Go and even look at the Premed threads of CC.

so do you guys think UCM will be able to send me to top medical schools such as UCLA or UCSD?

I have a question... In the fall I will be going there but I won't be taking a car until a month after classes begin...Do you recomend I still buy the year parking lot permit or wait until I have the car?

If you are a freshmen, you can't. Because of construction on the old parking space, freshmen will not be able to bring a car. Only 30 exceptions will be made( legit reason will be something medical or business.).

UCM provides a transportation service which takes you to the city of merced and back.

well i guess i better start faking a medical problem... ;)

lol, don't get caught,haha.

But umm, I think some places just outside of campus (like 2-10 miles away), people are renting their land to students.

yes there's housing construction going on around Merced which is cool... do you live near Merced?

I have a BIG question...I applied to UCM and I'm sure I will get in because of ELC. So I was looking at the my ucmerced thing for students and future students and I created an account. Was that a bad thing? because i can't see any info about my apps

Well I have thought about that actually and it's a decision I am very happy with. I know to most people it sounds like I'm crazy but I'm not, I'm not going to UCM because I think I can get a 4.0. I have better reasons than that. :)

Of course not. Well my first attraction to UCM is the campus and how it's modern. Also, I really like the professor to student ratio. It's the perfect distance from home (I won't be commuting). But overall I really like UCM because when I visited the campus it was a place I felt comfortable. I visited all the other UC's I applied to and I didn't feel the same way.

Yes Davis was very nice also. If for some odd reason I didn't go to UCM (not likely) I think I would choose UCD and after that UCI. Do you attend a UC?

It is a good thing that not all students are shallow enough to pick the school that ranks the highest.

Cali Trumpet that means a lot to me :D

i 2nd Cali Trumpet!! to the maxxx!!!

I think it's sad that while UCLA and UCB students argue which school is better...it seems some people in this thread argued which school is worse, UCR or UCM. Clearly, since UCM is unranked -- I don't see how traditional measurements apply yet.

Back on topic ... do current students feel UCM is rapidly improving and addressing student grievances? Where do you see the campus in 3-4 years? Better, worse, same?

It wasn't long ago that UCSD and UCIrvine were constructed, and both are now pretty well respected (after UCLA/UCB, of course.)
