Hey you guys, I was just wondering which dorm you guys think is the best?? (socially, academically, random stuff, w/e) And which dorm has the best food?? No disrespect to the people at Simmons but I lived there this summer and the food sucked A** lol. Maybe it was because I was there over the summer, but it made my whole Simmons experience terrible lol. But I want to know what actual students think of the dorms and the food. Its your chance to REP YOUR DORM! haha

I think MacGregor had the best food because I got to make it myself.

It's possible for us to describe good and bad things about each dorm, but more difficult to value-judge the "best" and "worst" dorms -- since the dorms are student-created communities, each dorm appeals to certain people and turns off others.

I lived in MacGregor, and it was a great place for me. The dorm is all singles, but is arranged in suites of 6 or 8 and in entries of 6 suites. Each entry tends to be a somewhat self-contained social unit, and residents feel more loyalty to their entries than to the dorm as a whole. MacGregor provided a good social balance for me -- I could hang out with my friends in the hallways or in the entry lounge, but I could also go into my room and shut the door when I needed to.

I lived in East Campus all four years, so obviously I think it is the best. :) But you can't value-judge the dorms, for the reasons Mollie said. What's awesome to one person, in terms of dorm environment, is awful to another.

Just FYI, most dorms do not have dining halls. You get food at non-dorm-affiliated dining places around campus, or at another dorm's dining hall, or you buy food at either MIT's grocery store or another local one (usually the Star Market over by Random Hall) and cook it for yourself. Of the dorms that do have dining halls, I've eaten in all of them except McCormick, and I wasn't thrilled by any of them, but Next House's dining hall food sucked least.

McCormick has the best food by far :D

Next House is actually a pretty nice place (for freshmen...why you would live there as an upperclassman is beyond me). Sure, it's far from everything, and you're probably only there from 9 pm to 9 am, but it's a good community and a lot of non-residents end up spending more time there than at their assigned dorm.

East Campus FTW. It is close to EVERYTHING. Well, everything important. ;D
