Hello. I've been having this extreme paranoia about something small...

My silly high school has put my name on my transcripts as Sun J. Ji (where Sun is my first name, J is my middle name, and Ji is my last name). However, I've been filling applications as Sun Jong Ji, where Sun Jong is my first name and Ji is my last name. Will colleges be able to tell the difference? I'm a bit worried because my transcript says that I'm Sun J. Ji and the CollegeBoard recognizes me as Sun Jong Ji and etc etc...

Will this affect me in any significant way? I'm extremely paranoid that they won't be able to make the connection that Sun Jong Ji and Sun J. Ji are the same... since most things are all done through computers...

The common app asks if you also go by another name. I would explain it there. Have you already applied to some schools? It wouldn't hurt to send them a very brief letter explaining this.

I haven't 100% submitted my applications yet but I'm just worrying. I know the UCs have a space where I can write other names that I go by. All of my schools that I can apply to using the Common Application won't be a problem I guess.

The only schools that don't use the Common App are:

U Washington
USC
Pepperdine
Notre Dame
U Michigan
U Pittsburgh

Can anyone tell me if they have a section where I can put the other names that I go by?

Also, is this really a big deal or am I over thinking it?

Ahh I see... that's really comforting. My name isn't really common but if they track applicants using their social security number, I guess there is nothing to worry about.
