D22 just came home last night after finishing her last final (and her first semester at college). Today we went out to lunch and spent the afternoon Christmas shopping. So nice to spend the day with her. I missed her so much!
We won! Hook 'em!
Such a great thread!
My daily happiness comes from being the first one up and enjoying coffee and cats in a quiet house.
Most days I get more joy from getting outside to run or swim or even walk.
Joy today was a 5am call from D17’s school that power had been out since last night and despite power company’s efforts, had not been restored so a three day weekend for her! Great news b/c she has been stressed/exhausted with IB assignments and applying to college. An unexpected day off with no assigned work is just what she needed!
No idea what happened with the power - not weather related.
Gosh, I can’t agree more to quiet morning time and no offense to my family but ALONE morning time!
Joy 1 - one son is home from college for a month! Reduced a little by the fact that I have to be more attentive to the state in which I walk around our usually empty nest house
Joy 2 - Working in a staff position at a university means a week of saved up vacation leave and then a week + Jan. 2 of university holiday leave!
Joy was being able to drop off Christmas gifts at my niece’s place yesterday so I don’t have to make multiple drop offs nor go to my sister’s place, where she is caring for at least one ill grandchild.
Also dropped off gifts for my other niece with my brother and my other brother and his secretary.
I love giving out gifts—it makes my joyful and helps declutter S’s room, which is temporarily my gift wrapping workshop.
My other great joy is niece getting a promotion, as her boss is retiring! She will be head of personnel for our city & county!
Got to see my 5 month old grand kitty today. He has so much fun playing on his kitty tree you can’t help but smile. Then he completely passes out, and is another kind of adorable.
Winter days that are cold, but not frigid with sunshine enough to make afternoon walks comfortable. Wish it could last, but evidently really yucky weather coming by midweek. Maybe it will become a joy to light a fire, something it has been too warm to do until now.
Went for a nice long walk with a friend yesterday and it was invigorating mentally and physically. The weather was beautiful (50’s and sunny). Tree is finally up, and college kid will be home Wed night.
Got some wrapping done today and some tree decorating.
And…ordered a turducken for Christmas dinner. I’ve never had it but felt it was time to try something new!!!
And a neighbor brought me a bottle of wine that I had complimented her on serving at a recent (hubby’s) work party! So nice!
I literally cannot sleep I have so much joy … the Texas Longhorns won the national volleyball championship! This particular group is so special, including the natl player of the year and a woman who has had multiple open heart surgeries. Transfers and freshmen and veterans all came together for a singular goal, and they accomplished it tonight. So glad that I got to see so many of their games this year.
Today’s joy - the music at this morning’s service. Today was a service of Lessons and Carols - and it was beautiful. The choir sang, we had guest artists from the University, it was phenomenal. I am grateful for those who share their talents.
Often watching CBS Sunday Mornings brings me joy. Today’s was a good episode since I love Hallmark movies and one of the segments focused on their popularity. I know they are cheesy, but I love that using my fast forward button to skip commercials means I get a happy ending in an 80 minutes.
@2VU0609 so funny that your post today refers to CBS Sunday Morning b/c I was coming here to post that I too experienced joy from CBS Sunday Morning but from a different segment!
It was the story about the young girls who were fleeing violence in Yugoslavia 20+ years ago, put on a plane alone by their parents. A stranger on the plane sitting with them, spoke with them and after hearing why they were on the plane, wrote a note on an envelope and gave it to them as they got off the plane. A $100 bill was inside (money that acc to the story fed them for three months).
I heard about this months ago, when one of the girls went to social media to try and find the woman to thank her. She only knew her name was Stacy and what she looked like at the time, and I think the area where she lived. The story, at the time, indicated Stacy had been found when friends of Stacy saw the story. Today’s segment was a follow up, as they were finally able to meet in person 20+ years later. The young girl, now an adult, has dedicated her life to social causes, never forgetting the woman on the plane.
A feel good story for sure! A simple act of kindness that influenced the trajectory of her life.
Today, getting the text: Boarded and on time!
Ditto. I even got my husband to come along this week, referring to the Lessons and Carols service by the nickname we use at our house - “no sermon Sunday”.
I love those Steve Hartman segments! This week’s was especially good.
I really love seeing the lights on the Christmas tree. Especially at night.
My husband and I took a slight detour within our neighborhood to check out some lights last night. It seems like there are more than normal. It’s fun to see what people do. We are “boring” and only have candles in our windows. When kids were younger we decorated outside more.
An amazing expression of joy. Watch the video to the end and read the article that goes with it. What a special boy. The article is gifted so hopefully should be accessible to those without a WPost subscription.
