A Month Long Thread, December, What Brings You Joy (in your day)?

I so love to play handbells that I have to restrain myself from singing the count out loud. 'Tis the Handbell Season!

The complaint of UPS store was about multiple people trying to cut in line. Since this is a thread on joy, I’ll put the details in DM.

Love this. Best wishes for a great visit and continued strength to her.

Today joy is menu planning for this weekend, when my D20 will be home from school AND my very favorite SIL and her family will be staying with us. It will be a full house in the very best way.

A good phone call with my best work friend from “home” yesterday. She had a stroke in July, but is doing better all the time. Usually I call her every 1-2 weeks, but she called yesterday as I was getting ready to turn out of condo driveway for grocery. I was so excited to talk to her that I backed up into a parking place where I sat and talked to her for almost 30 minutes. Not sure that she lost any words yesterday while we talked, so I can tell she is better.

Second day in a row I was able to walk to yoga and back (about 2.5 miles round trip) and take a class. Walking and yoga both bring me joy. Grateful to be able to do this.

I am also feeling happy from a phone call with my friend/former coworker, who is recovering from shingles in her eye. She is finally feeling better, with no permanent damage. I don’t miss my job, but I sure miss her. We plan to meet for lunch Monday, and I can’t wait!

In another thread, I posted an update on my son’s guardianship hearing , which went well. But specifically what brought me joy was going before such a compassionate, kind, thoughtful judge who obviously takes his job seriously and wants to make the right decisions. And he gave us York Peppermint Patties!

Seeing friends I haven’t seen much lately is bringing me joy this week. Since COVID we simply haven’t been as social as we used to be, but I’m packing a lot in this week.

Sounds like several of us are feeling joy through friendship today!

I too had a joyful day after meeting a friend I hadn’t seen in a few months and taking a 3 hour walk with her around town.

I was especially happy when we stopped for a 20% off sale at the equivalent of a military exchange store where I got the very last pair of Brooks Adrenaline running shoes in my size for $92 (retail is $140 plus tax). My feet will be grateful!

Yesterday I made small cream cheese pound cakes to give to condo friends who have been so welcoming and a few colleagues at new part-time job. Not sure if they are good, but the batter I licked off the beaters was delicious and the smell of my condo was amazing. Made cookies after dinner to take to holiday potluck for new job and more yummy baking smells. Joy all day long from those Christmas is coming smells. I often think Christmas Day is anti-climactic because I love having the tree up for an extended period and all the little lead-up activities so much. I no longer have to split Christmas Day time with my ex-H, but that and having the thought bubble in my head that soon it would be time to “undecorate” have often taken the edge off my joy on actual Christmas Day. Trying hard to enjoy all the little things in these run-up days!

This might not qualify as an actual “joy,” but it’s nice that I’ve been done with Christmas shopping and wrapping for quite some time, and I can just relax and enjoy the days leading up to Christmas. There will only be 3 of us here for Christmas (but that’s for another thread), so I won’t even be stressed cooking that day. This might be the most relaxed holiday season I’ve had in quite some time.

It is definitely a joy to have the Christmas shopping/wrapping finished. Being able to relax on the holiday is wonderful

Early morning joy - 2hr weather delay for my high schooler. She really needed the extra sleep this morning so glad schools decided to open late.

Small joy - finding plenty of cream at Trader Joe’s this morning after not being able to find it at two local grocery store chains.

Bigger joy - picking younger son up from airport in three hours! The cream was necessary to make the dinner he requested when he is home tonight!

OK, I’m hoping I don’t jinx it, but dh and I are going to a watch party for our favorite team, which is playing tonight to get in the nat’l championship game. I sincerely hoping I am joyful after 8 p.m. Central. :volleyball:

Today, my joy is not having to make it in to the office. We had an ice storm and the roads are very slick. Previously, I would have risked life and limb to be in the office. Today, I spent the day doing trainings for the job I just started on Monday, safe at home. I didn’t have to order lunch for the office, I didn’t have to do all of my former boss’s errands, I just did the trainings. It felt like a luxury.

Woot—yesterday successfully finished 6 errands and today, 5 and counting. I’m happily able to deliver my Christmas gifts as part of other errands as well. It makes me very happy!

Still losing a few minutes in the morning BUT the sunset times have started to move back in our favor! Small wins, big joy!

I felt some joy this morn sending hubby off to mail our big batch of Christmas letters, after having finished package mailing a few days. The house is decorated, and I was able to have a church friend to the house (instead of Starbucks for coffee). Looking forward to having two other girlfriends friends over for brunch on Saturday. We usually do dinner at my house, but this year daytime worked better.
