A Month Long Thread - November, National Gratitude Month

Today I’m thankful for two things.

The first is that my older son made the 5 hr drive home from school today safely/without incident, and in time to watch the USA World Cup game this afternoon.

Second is that the weather forecast for Thanksgiving shows no rain. We are having our 15th annual Turkey Bowl game on our neighborhood beach, a tradition we started with our neighbors when our kids were little. It is my sons’ favorite thing about Thanksgiving. Younger son has not played in two years (first year canceled due to covid and last year he had the flu). He texted me a few days ago asking about the weather forecast, which at the time was showing rain on Thursday. It’s now looking to be a perfect fall day. It’s the little things that excite my 19 y/o! :slightly_smiling_face:

Grateful that Amtrak offers a safe and hassle-free way for my D20 to get home, so that I don’t have to worry about weather, traffic and just general I-95 insanity while she travels. Super thankful that I will have all of my chickens in the hen house by dinnertime this evening.

I am grateful that my son tries to do “the right thing” and considers other people’s perspectives.

@DeeCee36 It definitely is nice being able to use the train and not have to worry about traffic or canceled flights. My son has taken the train in the past but with everyone home for Thanksgiving, we needed the extra car. That said, we were not so lucky last month when my 17 y/o took Amtrak afterschool (NE Regional from DC to NY) to meet us at our son’s campus for the weekend. Her train was late getting to her departure station, then had numerous delays along the track along the way. She ended up missing her connecting train at NY/Penn Station by 3 mins (her train was an hour late, she should have had plenty of time to make it). Thankfully she has been to Penn Station several times and was able to figure out how to rebook herself on the next train but I was a nervous mom knowing she was sitting in Penn Station alone at night! I knew she was fine, but I’m a professional worrier! :slightly_smiling_face:

Grateful for managing to (1) open facetime call, (2) maneuver to view text, (3) return to facetime call, all without dropping international connection and appearing competent. Not heading to the eldercare home just yet…

Thankful to feel that my two part-time jobs not only provide me with some income, but are hopefully helping to make the world a better place in a small way. And for the newest gig, thankful to find joy in work.

Thankful that yesterday USPS delivered the limited edition Harry Styles t-shirt SIL picked up at a concert in Los Angeles for my 17 y/o. It will be a nice surprise Christmas gift for her. Unlike other Christmas packages that sometimes get lost or misdelivered, this gift would not have been replaceable so I’m glad it arrived!

Grateful this month is turning out so wonderful! S and his fiancée successfully moved from DC to NYC, S successfully ran NYC marathon with only minor after effects, that S, fiancée and D are here visiting with us and we have all had a lovely staycation together, that nephew had a fabulous wedding and reception after the 2.5 year covid delay, and that we are all healthy!

Thankful for the past few days visiting with all three boys and two wives, foot deep snow (that looked absolutely gorgeous), great food with everyone pitching in to cook/clean, fun games, no problems for us en route there, back, or down to FIL’s now (prayers for the family/friends of a driver who died in a wreck we passed though), and general enjoyment that holidays are supposed to be providing.

It’s definitely been some Jim Croce, “Time in a Bottle” times. I wish they didn’t have to pass so quickly.

After reading the “best book you’ve read thread” I’m reminded of how lucky we are to have so many great choices in books to read. And libraries - one of my favorite places in the world!!

I am having to dig deep as I was sick all last week and through the weekend. Starting to feel better after 10 days.

Here goes my thankful list:

I am feeling better for Thanksgiving.
For the first time in a few years we (me , H, S, D and SIL) are together on a major holiday.
It is GD’s first Thanksgiving!

I’m glad we live a 5 minute drive from Costco and they were able to look at my brother’s car tire and determine leak was unrepairable. Brother opted to buy 4 new tires and reimbursed me most of what i paid for the tires yesterday, over my objections (I was happy to pay but he venmoed my D). Now the car will be safe to drive and no one needs to constantly check tire pressures and keep adding air to tires.

I’m grateful that I have a family that’s willing to pitch on and make do when unexpected things occur.
I’m thankful I have a relative who’s a psychologist and doesn’t charge me for “consults.”
