Here's the deal: I didn't do sports in high school and I sort of regret it now. So I'm looking to start a new sport in college. I did some work for my high school's varsity lacrosse team last semester and found that I rather like the sport. So the question is, can I/should I start a new sport, preferably the aforementioned lacrosse, in college? What resources should I turn to? Obviously I'm not looking to play it competitively or anything; I'm just looking for something fun to do. And yes, I am aware that lacrosse is a very physically demanding sport.

I agree with worldchanger....check out your school's intramural program and club sports. A lot of schools offer both.

At my school intramurals are either very cheap ($5/player) or free, and most equipment is provided. Club sports can be pretty expensive since the players pay for everything and if the team goes to nationals or far away tournaments, it's up to fundraising to pay for the trip. My friends are on the rugby team and for their trip to nationals they sold tshirts and had a bake sale...and won Nationals :)

And if you're school offers "Broomball" as an intramural...try it. It's my favorite intramural, out of the 11 that I participated in last year.

If your school has a club Ultimate team, it might be a good idea to give that a try. It is a generally inexpensive sport to join unless you do end up going to Nationals but thats a different discussion. It's a fun sport and pretty easy to get into.
