A note for deferred students

We have had a lot of questions about this so I wanted to clarify:

  • Deferred students do not need to reapply to the College to be considered in our regular decision cycle. We automatically reconsider your application in our regular admission cycle if you were deferred; you do not need to submit a new application or take any action to request to be considered in our regular decision round. If you no longer wish to have your application considered in RD, you may withdraw your application through your UChicago Account.
  • We do not require or recommend that students submit new essays or recommendation letters after being deferred. While you may upload supplemental material to your UChicago Account if you wish to, it is truly not necessary (and in many cases would be burdensome to you, us, or your teachers) to re-write essays you have previously submitted or to request new recommendation letters. Our only requirement is that deferred students send us their midyear grades through a midyear report, and we allow students to request an interview if they have previously not had one and to upload information about significant new accomplishments or achievements in to the Supplemental Materials section of your UChicago Account. You may also elect to send a short note of continued interest to your regional admissions officer via email if you wish to do so.

Thank you…my daughter had these exact questions…i appreciate the responsiveness of your office!
