I don't understand why all the AP program reports is a 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. Yes, these scores represent possible grades we would get in a college course of the same subject, but that's still not completely helpful. Why not a subscore of the mc and free response. I would be curious to see if, for instance, my DBQ grade was as low as I thought it was. I got a 4 on the test and I know the mc and FRQs were easy, so I'd just like to know. Is it so hard for them to report a 1-5 grade, a 1-80 or whatever grade, and 1-9 on essays grades? I just don't get it.

ya, I totally agree

one score isn't helpful; even the SAT has a breakdown, which can semi-point to what you need to work on

Agreed. Getting subscores is something that I'd actually fork 8 bucks over for. I guess College Board is worried that it would be getting a lot of appeals for rescoring if some people got lower-than-expected scores on a certain section of the exam. This would especially be true for those who receive a 3 or a 4 on the overall exam.

agree half-way. i used to think that if i knew the what questions i missed like the sat or act, i would feel more satisfied, but if you think about it, you won't even have the booklet....so you would still be frustrated b/c you didn't know what question you missed & you can't "improve". second, the scoring is quite complicated (and it's based on the curve), so it requires different kind of scoring. and then, you get those....low 4...high4...low5...middle 5...and the whold scoring gets fuzzy again.

I'm surprised they don't offer to give you that information for more money.

Although if the money-grubbing College Board hasn't thought of that yet there must be a reason they don't let that info out.

More cost effective this way, and CB doesnt have to deal with as many inquiries (I mean, what would you inquire about if you can't see your subscores)

I agree, zivalicha! But my concern with subscores has been that they may be more harmful than beneficial. I can hear it now, "Ziggy" sees her scores, yells to her mom, "I missed a 5 by one point," then kills herself.

if subscores were available, then getting a 5 wouldn't be good enough... you would have to get a perfect subscore as well. If anything, it will just lead to more competition.

More competition isn't exactly a bad thing.

You guys are lucky I didnt even get my AP scores and I live in CA.!!!!!!! STUPID COLLEGEBOARD!!!!!!!

maybe one day collegeboard will offer students a breakdown

for an extra $10

More like $50

Yeah, probably.
