Hi everyone! So today my question is regarding Harvard and grades. Do you need an unweighted average of an A+ to get into Harvard? I am asking this question because my average is a 95 which is an A average, not an A plus. This question is not regarding class rank, class levels, or any of the extra details. I would just like to know if you would probably need an A+ to get into Harvard.
My school sent approximately 6% of the class to Harvard each year from 2012 to 2014, and in most years the highest GPA is a 95. Just saying.
If your school gives out A’s like candy, you might need an A+. If you go to a rigorous prep school where the top students have A- averages you won’t. It’s all about context. And your grades and scores are the least of it. They will open the door, but what else you have to bring to the table is where the decision will ultimately get made.
Thank you so much! For honors at my schools the average grade is an A- and the top students have A’s and A plusses. So I guess as long as I meet the requirements then I have a shot at even being considered.
First of all, Harvard, like most schools, uses a holistic admissions process that grades are a part of, but high grades alone will not gain you entrance. Secondly, you have to bear in mind that many schools do not issue grades of A-plus and; in those schools, A is the highest grade you can get. In that situation, you won’t be penalized for not having an A-plus. Likewise, you won’t be penalized if a 4.0 is the highest possible cumulative GPA at your school if your school doesn’t weight honors or AP classes.
