A question about ethnicity

i dont mean to offend anyone by what i write herein,

I was born in the USA,

My dad was born in Egypt, he is jewish, and was expelled from the country during the suez canal crisis as were all the jews, he lived for 15 years in france before moving to ths usa. His parents are from egypt and spain.

My mother was born here but her roots go back to eastern europe, especially poland.

What would be the most advantageous way for me to mark my ethnicity.

My skin color is very white.

I plan to apply to all the ivy league schools, and my grades and ecs suggest i hopefully have a decent shot.

What ethnicity should i put myself down as on my college app?

Could i put african american since egypt is technically in africa? Is that misleading if i do so because if i go in for an interview, admissions officers will be presented with a white kid and will be wondering why i marked african american?
Could i put latin because of spain? or is that just for latin americans?
am i best off with just marking caucasian?
should i write no response?
is there another alternative that you can think of?

thanks

<p>did some research and according to the us census bureau, it seems that i would be considered white,</p>

<p><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_American_(U.S._Census%5B/url%5D)"&gt;http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_American_(U.S._Census)&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p>

<p>but i would still welcome your comments :-)</p>

<p>yeah well even Persians and middle easterners are technically "white"</p>

<p><b>Could i put latin because of spain? or is that just for latin americans?</b>
Why would you do that?</p>

<p>If you're gonna put African American or Latino down just to have an edge in college applications, don't do it. However, you could always mark the "other" category as well as white. If the form asks for your "other" ethnicity, you could say Middle-Eastern or something like that.</p>

<p>This post is really getting me angry. :/</p>

<p>i didnt mean to get anyone angry with this post, but we all know, that ethnicity can give an advantage in admissions, and i am just trying to see what if anything that i can extract to beef up my application. probably though i will end up marking white or other.</p>

<p>skeees, your post isn't offensive at all. Latin refers to latin-american, since Spanish is European, aka white. So no, you shouldn't put down latin-american. I don't know about the Egyptian thing, but I'd definitely get it straight before putting that down on an application. </p>

<p>historic, why are you getting riled up? he's only asking a question.</p>

<p>my anger wasn't being directed towards him more than it was to the fact that it brought up - People out there actually taking the action of writing down a URM that they are not. Caucasian, black, hispanic, na, all should be angered over the fact that they are screwing them over:
Caucasian: Now that person has a better chance then you. Is that fare to you?
URMS: When you're apply and are accepted to your dream college prepare for a big shocker: that 6% of your ethnicity pop. might just be a bit lower than you think. Don't be expecting THAT peson to join the universities African American Club.
Some diversity.</p>
