a question about financial aid for international transfer student

Hi everyone! I am a international student in UCLA and want to transfer to stanford. I do need to some financial aid, such as $20,000, to support my study in Stanford. However, from the website, I know financial aid will be a factor in admission evaluation. Does that mean if I don't apply for financial aid, I will have high chance? If it does, what should I do? Thank you.

"Stanford has a limited amount of financial aid for international students. International students needing assistance must make that indication on the admission application. Aid eligibility will be determined based on family financial circumstances.

International students who do not request consideration for financial aid at the time they apply for admission will not be eligible to apply for aid at Stanford throughout their undergraduate years."

It would increase (however slightly) your chances to apply without requesting aid. However, if you say you need ~20000 a year to finance your education, you will be leaving Stanford with 80K in loans.

How can you get 80K? I don’t understand. Can you explain it in detail. Thanks.

You would have to take out a loan either from a private lender or a bank or whatever.

You would also need a co-signer to take out such a loan. Personally I don’t think it’s worth it to essentially spend 80K to slightly boost your chance of acceptance. If you need financial aid, apply for it.
