My DD is a senior at a CC top LAC. She will be graduating in May. She is a history major who originally intended to go to law school, but with the law market the way it is has changed her mind. She has since become interested in Physician Assistant school. She has managed to fit in some pre-reqs and will take the rest after she graduates at our local U. She needs to work for a year or two (hopefully in something medically related) to save $$ for PA school, and will be applying for may jobs in the near future.

My question is...should she ask for letters of recommendation now? She is certain that she get will very good one from her coach (who is a faculty member) as she is the captain of a varsity team. She is also quite certain she can get a letter from her employer whom she has worked for for the past 2 years in a non-profit community setting. Will she need another one from a professor as well?

She is wondering how to go about getting letters that can be used for both employment and eventually PA school. Several profs wrote her letters for an internship she completed at a non-profit last summer, but she never saw them as they were sent directly to the non-profit. I can't imagine that she needs to contact each recommendation writer every time she applies for a job or a spot at a PA school (or does she???).

I have no experience in this area so I have no idea what to advise her. Thanks in advance for your help!
