If an applicant meets all of the qualifications for a merit scholarship (GPA, test scores etc) and also demonstrates the requisite interest in science, math etc and is a decent human being, what are the chances that she would be accepted at HMC? Would it be considered a match school for her? Have you ever heard of a student with those credentials being rejected? Thanks.

She has a good chance, but it's not a guarantee. The school does reject people who match academically if they don't match in other ways. If you give me more information, I can make more of a judgement, but since I don't see who gets rejected (or even all of the people who are accepted) I won't know for sure anyway.

She is a junior and has taken a heavy load of math and science courses (like AP BC Calc in 9th grade, multivariate and AP computer science in 10th grade, AP physics and stats in 11th grade). Her academic interests are computer science and physics. She has done physics research the past two summers and will be working on a computer science project this summer. She programs for fun. She tutors math for money. Her ECs are mostly computer related. She also writes well and enjoys creative writing and craft making. She recently visited HMC and really liked it. What else do you need to know?

She will get in ;). Consider having her apply for the Corporate Scholars Program as well.

Yeah, I would say she has a very very good chance. I don't like to say it's guaranteed, but it just about is. From what you've said, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't admit her.

Thanks, S'vrone and pb. She really likes HMC and we're having a hard time finding other schools she likes, so I hope you are right!
