We drove down to Cal Poly today to take a picture of our son in front of the Cal Poly SLO sign. It will be part of his high school announcement. We had a yummy dinner at Firestone Grill. It was crowded with students having a good time. It was a bit windy down there today and cold, but clear and beautiful.

We won’t be driving down there again until SOAR in August. I hope registration for that begins next week. I think we will get a hotel room or stay in the campus apartments. Sitting/driving a car for 7 hours is a bit hard in just one day. I think splitting it up is the way to go.

Now that’s dedication! Good for you, momofmv! We’ve had that cold, biting wind for the past couple of days. Brrrrrr. Very unseasonal for late May!

I wanted to ask you about SOAR. I know they’ve moved the notification date to later in May now. You mentioned staying over night. Do you know how long the day is and what time it begins in the morning? I don’t want to start out at the crack of dawn. I’m wondering if we should spend the night *before *down there and then drive home when it’s over that day? Just need to know whether to reserve a room.

Out of curiosity, how WOULD I Photoshop my daughter’s picture into a photo of Cal Poly? I have Photoshop, but still have never used it. Can you give me some easy instructions? Thanks!

Yes, it was pretty crazy, but My family likes to go on drives and spend time together. It is a beutiful place to visit and we had a great dinner. It beats housework! Plus I wouldn’t know how to photoshop him into a picture that wouldn’t end up looking fake.

I was told that SOAR takes most of the day, but you could go down early and then leave. I think we may stay the night before in the Poly Canyon dorms and then leave after the SOAR activities are done or we will stay at the Holiday Inn express.

I’m thinking I might call my relatives who live in Cayucos and see if they want company the day before. They have a wonderful avocado and cattle ranch tucked in the hills. Then we can drive to SLO and spend the night and be ready for SOAR bright and early. It will either be August 10 or 17. If that doesn’t work with the relatives, we can just drive down a bit later and hang out in and around SLO. I’m sure we’ll probably just drive back home when SOAR is over.

you can just get a picture of cal poly’s sign and have your daughter stand in front of a blank wall (like a green screen) and then use the magic eraser thing to delete the “blank wall” and put the background in to replace it
