A sophomore Korean in Mexico, dreaming for Early Columbia.

Hi guys! First time posting in CC! After admiring those who were accepted by Early Decision, I finally decided to write and tell you guys some of my problems and my background :p
I'm a Korean and I came to Mexico 9 years ago, and I speak perfectly the three languages.
My school is an American private school, and they offer IB Diploma program.
We also don't have any of those honor programs and those stuff and everyone gets the same classes, but they are hard enough in my opinion hahahaha
I want to finish the SAT before it changes, so I have chance until Jan 2016, although I'd love to get a nice score before the end of 2015. I'm taking in May, to see how I do, so that I can prepare during summer.
I really am very determined to do anything, and do anything to be accepted, for class of 2021.
I already took SAT Subject Test for Spanish, and got 790. I'm planning to take Math IIC, and a science subject also.
I'm doing 4 hours of helping Korean church and teaching Spanish, Korean every Saturday, and I also tutor Korean to those K-Pop Mexican lovers hahah
I play 3 instruments, and I swim and play golf (planning to enter the varsity volleyball team)
I'm only studying SAT right now, and I really am aiming for a 2300+.
Also, how does ethnicity affect the acceptance? I have a Korean passport, but at least I speak 3 languages well (pretty proud of it)
I want to ask fellow CCers and Columbia students and i really ask for advice and helppp
I know it's early for a sophomore to think about this, but my dream is to enter Columbia, and our school has not sent an IVY student in the last 5 years I think (The best students have gone to U Chicago, Emory, NYU, etc.)
My GPA is 3.9 if it helps :p and I'm pretty certain that it will remain like that til I graduate. about 5% of class. (we don't send in ranks)

Thank youuu and I really would like to get to know you guys! :)
Greetings from Mexico lol

Hey, I’m a Korean-American who also lived in Mexico for ten years (can’t speak Korean though)- I just got rejected early decision from Columbia. Best of luck to you, man!

@mrstrawberry Hey! Could i know more about you if you dont care? Like what state you live in, school, and scores?? Thanks!

There is not a right answer to getting accepted into the top colleges.

But here is my advice, you can take it for a grain of salt.

Do what you love, find things you are passionate about. Once you find the things you are passionate about pursue it to your possibilities.

You can play 3 instruments? That is a good start, now show them you have a passion for it (through honor bands, competitions etc etc).

If you can do that while maintaining a solid GPA you will have a fair shot at the top schools I.E. Columbia.

Good Luck!

@thecoolboy1234 hey! sorry for late reply, and thanks! I’m not sure what I’m passionate about right now… I have passions to enter Columbia, but I’m not sure what subjects or things I’m interested. I know that I’m gonna go either finance or engineering (not sure from those 10000 types of engineering). The 3 instruments are just as hobbies, and I don’t have a band or anything… I wish I could finish SAT as soon as possible, so that I could start with other stuff! But thanks, and happy new year!
