a Sophomore that needs help. BAD GRADES.

My freshmen year of high school was pretty okay, i was in ALL Honors, I had a 3.0 gap first semester but 2nd semester I had a 2.8 with a FAIL in Geometry. Sophomore year is the WORST year of my LIFE so far. A LOT of cheating was going on in my classes and my classes are ALL Honors and 1 AP. In my honors chem class everyone cheated and i did not and i FAILED first semester. In my AP WORLD HISTORY class everyone cheated and i got a D and i did not cheat. In my SP 2 class i got a D. 2nd semester of Sophomore year I got a C in AP World History without cheating, B in Honors Chemistry without cheating , and i FAILED SP2. Now i do not know what to do with my life, I feel like giving up. I need some serious advice. I want to go to a 4 year University like NYU but my chances look slim now. I felt like I did the right thing by not cheating but now I'm reconsidering it because I am practically Failing High School. I am going to take 3 APs next year (Junior Year). I need help. Do I have hope?

u kinda posted this thread before…like 5 min ago

whoops computer glitches. I posted this so people can give me some advice. DO you have any advice?

What does SP2 stand for? You’re definitely in a bad place at the moment, but I’d advise you to hit the books, manage your time and study your ass off for the SATs. Do your absolute best in extracurriculars, school, and standardized testing and then come back to CC and ask for college app help. It’s not the end, but you’ll need to give it your all if you intend on achieving your dream.

SP2 stands for Spanish 2. I put in a LOT of time in my studies in fact this year I worked my hardest where as everyone else cheated. If I cheated I would have never faced this problem. Do you think I still have a shot at NYU?

Hmm, then- was the material too difficult for you, or did you understand everything and not do well on tests? You might need to change your study strategies if the latter is the case.

You might still have a shot, depending on how your junior year goes. Definitely apply to it, but make sure to apply to a multitude of safety and match schools as well.

The material was okay, i sorta understood it but I’m a terrible test taker and all my classes consisted tests after tests that were 90% of the grade. i however didnt cheat on those test like everyone else. thats why i did terrible :/. if i put that on my college summary will they understand my situation ?

EVERYONE CHEAT YOU CHEAT

CANT BEAT< JOIN

mmm that feel when you get an a+ after cheating all day every day

Haha I tried that but it didnt work out. Guilty conscious. i did do better 2nd semester of sophomore year . so if i improve nest year i’ll have a better chance? I mean I’m taking Ap Environmental Science, AP US History, AP English, Honors Precal, Spanish 2 again, Journalism.

I cheat all the time c: j/k i just copy useless hw for math only.
But you could of told the teacher people were copying, not that telling would help your grade but with such a “conscious” I’d suspect you would want to.
and really I’m kinda hesistant seeing as though you are taking HARDER classes with a gpa like that, not to sound harsh but if you couldn’t pass spanish 2, geometry etc How well do you think you will do is APUSH and AP Eng Lang? Not to say you are dumb but have you found the source of these bad grades and FIXED it? EX: Laziness, Not paying attention, etc etc etc

Yup! Bad test taking skills. Im taking those AP classes to do well to raise my GPA. I’m an honors student but this year has been bad both in school and family wise. Teachers this year were CRAPPY hence why everyone resorted to cheating. I am making up those FAILS and Ds. I had a Spanish teacher who spoke French and thought he knew everything about spanish. Make any sense to you? I think not. it didnt make any sense to me.

I get you i had kind of a hard year also, and my law teacher was absolutely the most arrogant ******* i’ve ever met, so i ended up with a D+ first semester. But i would just ask around about teachers i learned that the hard way

so do you think theres any hope for me? i have two years left.

If I were you I wouldn’t take more difficult classes when you didn’t do so well in easier ones. Take easier classes and get above a 3.0, or even better above a 3.5.

You could find a 4 year college to go to, but NYU will be a major reach without a significantly higher gpa and good test scores. Because test taking is not your strong suit, it seems that you’ll be able to get a better GPA easier. Don’t take those classes you signed up for! Take more reasonable ones.

Its kinda too late to drop out because I’ve been in a rigorous program for as long as i can remember. Hopefully i can do well. how can i get a 2000 on SATs?

By taking an easier course load so you can study more and still get good grades.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve been in a rigorous program, you’re not thriving in it and need to reevaluate your class choices if you want to get into a school like NYU.

How can i get 2000 on my SATS? what will prep me?

There are many forums on the subject, search for them. Biggest part: practice tests. Taking them, correcting them, then figuring out why you missed questions.

So lets say, i get 2000 does that mean I’m sorta safe and i can get into NYU?

No I wouldn’t consider yourself safe with a 2000. 2000 would put a normal person in range, but NYU’s average GPA is a 3.6 I believe, and yours falls short there.

Very very slim chances IMO.
